There is a Running Back compilation from a few years ago where the track sequencing is so deliberate that removing any single song would break the whole thing. That is the level of intentionality we are after with these playlists. Not a dump of songs we liked this week. Not a mood-board with a title. A sequence that holds together as a listening experience from first track to last.
How We Build Playlists
Every playlist on Unchained Radio is assembled by hand. One person picks the tracks, decides the order, and listens to the full sequence before it goes up. There is no algorithmic assist, no collaborative filtering, no "because you listened to X you might like Y" logic running in the background.
The reason is simple: a playlist built by a person who understands the music will always have something that a generated list cannot. Context. A sense of what should come after what. The knowledge that a Hunee edit of an obscure Ghanaian highlife track belongs next to a Session Victim deep house roller even though no algorithm would ever connect those two dots.
These playlists are designed for sustained listening. Put one on while you work. Let it score a drive. Use it as a starting point for digging deeper into artists and labels you have not encountered before. Every track is there because it earned its place, not because it filled a slot.
Browse Playlists
House Sessions
Deep, soulful, raw. Curated house selections that move through moods and sub-styles without losing the thread. From warmth to grit and back again.
Electro Sessions
Cold machines, warm undertones. Electro playlists built around the tension between precision and feeling. DJ Stingray energy.
Funk and Disco Cuts
Originals, edits, and re-edits. The rhythmic DNA of everything that came after, presented in sequences that make the lineage obvious.
Late Night Dance Picks
Music for the small hours. Lower tempos, deeper textures, and the kind of selections that sound better the darker it gets outside.
Underground Essentials
The tracks that define underground electronic music as a living practice. Not a nostalgia exercise. Not a greatest-hits compilation. A working document.
Beyond the Playlists
If a playlist introduces you to an artist or label worth following, the next step is the artists section for spotlights and profiles, or the mix archive for full-length DJ sessions that go deeper into the styles represented here. For the selectors who contribute to these playlists and want to share a longer set, we accept guest mix submissions on a rolling basis.
