Session Victim put out a record on Delusions of Grandeur a few years back that barely registered on any major platform. No playlist placement, no algorithm boost. It found its audience because small platforms and DJs kept passing it around, playing it in mixes, writing about it in places exactly like this one. That is how discovery actually works in underground dance music, and that is what Unchained Radio is set up to do.
What We Cover
Our artist spotlights and editorial features focus on producers, DJs, and labels working in house, electro, funk, nu-disco, and underground dance music at large. We are particularly interested in:
- Independent releases on small or mid-size labels
- Self-released work with clear artistic intent
- Labels building a catalog with identity and direction
- Artists whose work fits the space between well-known names like Hunee, Mall Grab, or Legowelt and total obscurity
We do not cover major-label releases, commercial EDM, or music submitted by PR agencies representing artists with no connection to the underground. There is nothing wrong with any of that. It just is not what this platform does.
What to Send
Keep it simple. We do not need a press kit, a one-sheet, or a brand deck. Here is what works:
- A link to the music. Bandcamp is ideal. SoundCloud, private streams, or any direct listening link works too. We just need to be able to press play without downloading anything or creating an account.
- A short bio. Three to five sentences about who you are, what you do, and where you are based. If you have released on labels worth mentioning, mention them. If this is your first release, that is fine too.
- Why you think it fits. One sentence is enough. Just tell us what drew you to Unchained Radio specifically. It helps us understand where you see your music landing.
What Not to Send
- No file attachments. We will not open ZIP files, WAVs, or MP3s attached to emails. Links only.
- No mass emails. If we can tell the same message went to 200 blogs, it goes to the bottom of the pile. Address it to Unchained Radio and make it clear you know what we publish.
- No follow-up every three days. We hear everything. If your music fits, we will reach out. Typical response time is 2 to 4 weeks.
What Happens Next
If your submission is a fit, we will be in touch about featuring it. That could mean an artist spotlight, inclusion in one of our curated playlists, a mention in track roundups, or a label focus piece if you are running an imprint.
We do not charge for coverage. We do not offer paid placements. If we write about your music, it is because we think it is worth hearing.
If you are a DJ or selector looking to contribute a mix instead, head to the guest mix submission page.
